    Default Question about M52 Insurance

    Hi All,

I just wanted to ask those of you who have done an M52 swap on your E30's about how you insure your car.

I called a few insurance companies recently about insuring Joshce's M52 swapped 318is now that it's ownership is transferred over to me since he died. Even before I mentioned the M52 swap none of the insurance companies would touch the car. They all said it's too old.

I'm probably answering my own question here, because I live in the centre of Dublin I don't have a daily driver car anymore. I sold my daily two years ago because I had no use for it. Do those of you with M52's have your cars insured as "classics" or as secondary cars?

I'd love to get the E30 back on the road so any advice on insurance would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks in advance.

Try calling Carole Nash, I got a quite of them last year after they were at mondello. You'll need a 2nd car though with them.

Not sure who will insure the e30 on it's own but interested to know!

I've got a policy with Axa for my 318is. It's standard. I think it costs me around 700 a year.

Yeah, the E30 is my only car though. I might look into an E34 as a daily and then insure the E30 as a second car.

Axa quoted me 600 fully comp as main car for my 318is.
I am married in my 40's with full no claims and in Co Dublin, so that may make a difference.

Alternative is to buy the cheapest pile of crap with as long an NCT as possible to insure as your main car, but remember the classic policy will rise sharply if you increase the mileage.

Did you ever get this sorted?
Having just completed the swap myself I am looking to go through the steps needed to get it back on the road.
