Took a look where the slave rod goes. Honestly couldn't see much. Didn't see and visible dimple could see something shiny going across the hole near the top but that was about it.

Heading away for work today but will order a new clutch anyway and get another slave cylinder and drop the box next time I'm home and go from there

There should be a large piece of metal right inside the hole, that the slave cylinder pushes on - if this is missing, there's something up!

The image below shows one with the rod gone through it!

    Currently E30-less!

Guess I will know more when I pull the box. What does it mean if this is missing. New box or can it v replaced or repaired.

Also been looking at clutch kits. Car is a 318i m40 engine. From looking the clutch h seems to be 215mm with 10 teeth. Does this seem right and what about some that same dual mass??

    Won't be a dualmass if it's an orginal E30 318I flywheel

Clutch sizes are 215 or 216 or whichever is the smallest size which is what a 318i is.
228mm and 240mm then are the bigger sizes. Later are only really E36 and E46 M3s etc up though
    M42 RIGHTNESS.
Past 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream.

When you remove the box, try and separate them so nothing moves. Then check the clutch release bearing. It may have moved and jammed up everything. This happened to me before and I couldn't move the car.

Right. So back home for a working weekend..

Got the box removed. Looks like the spring/wire had slipped of one side. The bearing holder has a deep score in it I imagine from when I try and select gear and the rod burst.
Should it be ok to continue to use this part??
