    Default Techno 36

Picked this up about a month ago now... Was sick of my Audi a4 falling apart and its array of lights on the dash. Was also sick of driving a boring diesel!

So an ad for this popped up on a Facebook group, and it really caught my eye. Hadn't planned on changing cars yet, and certainly not an e36, but i said I'd inquire about it for the laugh. Next thing I know i had organised to go see it that evening

Car didn't have test, so I went cautiously. But when I saw the car, it looked like a good one. A few things were a little off putting to me... non-sunroof, grey leather (since has grown on me hugely), OBC wasn't working, no test... but when I drove it, my mind was made up It was so smooth on the road. It had some Bilstein suspension with lowering springs... Thinking B8s and Eibach springs maybe... But it handled beautifully and put a smile on my face down the back road after nearly a year of the A4 whaleyness.

So i took a chance on it.. It was my favourite e36 colour and i loved genuine staggered motorsports

Met up with a buddy of mine after with an Avus blue 318is on Style 66s... His is a little lower ha

    Wheels were very clean

    And new tyres

    `

The plan was to test it and just drive it for a while. A cheap run about while i sold the Audi and a bit of fun... Well the cheapness went out the window very quickly with some new wheels

More pics to come once I have them uplaoded

Looks very well--good luck with it.You don't see too many of these about. Think the Motorsport wheels look very classy and don't know why you would want to change them.

Looks good Conor. Great choice on the alloys. I was never a fan of motorsport alloys.

I love Motorsports too! Another deciding factor in buying the car, as I've always said that if I got an e36, Id get Motorsports. ANd these are very clean. And the car looks great with them too...... BUT I never thought I'd find the current wheels I have in the condition they are in And these are without doubt my favourite wheel to ever be put on an e36

    Sound man!

So a bit more on the car...

Car was extremely original, even coming with a folder full of History... Though I have yet to open it and look through

Car even has original Radio, and digital climate control! And someone has installed an OBC to complete the set... Unfortunetly this isnt working, and when I bought it, I though someone just placed in and just got the illumination of the buttons to work

But after pulling it out to have a look at the wiring, it appears to be all wired in with well labeled wiring. And also the matching indicator stalk is installed...
If anyone on here has any experience wiring this, I might ask you to take a look at it and see if you see anything done wrong?

Anywho... I put the car through the NCT without doing anything to it to see what it would fail on. Knew the D/S outer balljoint was fairly bad so expecting at least that to fail

And it did fail on that, and the 2 front brake lines were a little rusty... other than that, it only failed on bulbs!

So I got the balljoint (Micksgarage are now stocking Meyle HD stuff) for 18quid, and had a few feet of Kunifer brake pipe left over

And a couple bulbs and back for the retest

And home to fit me newly purchased wheels and that vader interior that I bought randomly like a year ago in the hope of using it it sometime

Coincidentally, the vaders were also grey. I had picked a full interior up cheap with the plans of dying em black and fixing up the rips. So just through in the fronts for now. My drivers seat was electric (passenger wasnt so probably a mis matched pair at some time) so had to wire that in as old seats were manual.

Thinking of getting a tech 2 steering wheel as I'm not a huge fan of the m3 wheel. Car also has a weighted e46 msport gearknob

And finally to the wheels... Got these off the same guy who had the car... he had planned on fitting them but didnt.. and didnt tell me he had them at the time

Fully refurbished, immaculate, genuine, staggered Style 21 wheels from an e34 m5.... or as everyone knows them as, Throwing stars!

    And the test fit...

Arch gap is a little big here because the car isnt resting on all 4 wheels

Gave her a good proper wash and took it for a trip down to Cork

And because I'm terrified of the wheels getting stolen...

So thats how the car sits now... Being dailying it the last week now, and its a fine car to drive. Picked up an e30 3.73 LSD I'm gonna swap into an e36 casing. Other than that, the car is fine for now

Grey interior is growing on me, although I'm temted to dye my vaders black and my buddy has a black dash and carpet for me if I want it... But not sure what to do that way. Car is a genuine mtech so has the black headliner.

The 1.9 m44 is a nice every day engine. Was actually impressed at the power delivery it has as I've never owned an IS. Im having ideas of making use of the spare 328i engine I have left in the shed But would it be a shame to rip the engine out of a car with history...

Thats all for now. Ill update this if I do any more with it Ill finish with a pic I took with my friends e36 this week

Very lucky to get the Nct so handily as it would be a bit of a concern and might turn out expensive. Never had the pleasure of driving one of these but am told that they are way more comfortable than the e30 and made for cruising.

Its a bit different to an e30 alright... more comfortable, but handles fairly similer I've found. Its a little heavier so you feel a bit more planted... also better breaks, ABS, and traction control make it a different experience. And more forgiving!

Yeah i'd love a 6 pot myself... 325 or 328i. I have a 328i running gear in the shed im tempted swap in. But for now, the m44 is by no means slow, and not bad on fuel for daily driving... especially with the mileage I do from Clare to Dublin or Cork every week
