Wink

Careful..... These things are like hot tubs ! Used by your friends initially then the novelty wears off & you are left with it.

(Advice free of charge by older person.)

Carpenter??? who needs a Carpenter i Built a Bar in My Garage about 7 yrs ago now, Simples

-The Structure:

The frame was made from a load of 2x4's i had out the back, old shit timber but ideal for this project, built 4 frames on the ground, lashed them up bolted to the floor, walls or whatever we could get them to fix to, Loads of nails, few hammers, a few Hammer heads to give me a hand and Whack whack whack it was up same type structure for the roof,

-Got my hands on 100 Sheets of 8x4 1' and a half cosy board, (insulated Slab board) for the amazing price of 50 euros they were rejects, some with holes ect, but 90% of them were perfect!

1 transit 2 lads half hour and bingo all in my shed, now i only needed bout 30 boards, so Gave the rest to my dads mate as he's a builder and had an extension to slab out

Slabbed, taped and jointed, and Had a go at plastering the celing which we went mad and gave it the stippled effect worked out a treat an all,
Let it Dry Lashed as many paint buckes of paint we could find into one bucket witch gave us an off Green/Puke colour, fecked that on the walls and happydays a room

-Outside Walls

-Then the outside walls were done with metal Cladding sheets, like you'd see on the front of an industrial Building got these cheap off a mate who worked in a factory which make said sheets few tec screws in my drill and boom, front walls, made a doorframe of course and got a door from em.... the door man banged that on job jobbed,

-The Electrics:

So then as im a sparks and had all the gear dropped in some wires for Sockets Lights ect, and wired it for sound (Sooooooo important to sort the tunes in a little boozer) so all 1st fixed for Sockes, Lights, and speakers,
Lights Downlighters, which i replaced on a job but thought they were too nice/good to skip do kept them and look great in the celing over the bar, An exit sign for over the door (Very important incase u dunno how to get out)

And a twin tube shatter proof quick igniting balast light fitting for the center of the room,
Then the speakers were mounted on corner shelvs made from scrap timber and wired up in opposite corners of the bar,

-Fixtures and fittings

-The Bar Consists of A Door Cut in half, Torched and varnished And an old wooden mantle peice which came from next door was to be skipped but just cluttered the place,

Where fixed to that ive Got a Guinnnes Tap, Miller, and Budwiser Tap perched on that, (Cannot Discuss how i got these for tax reasons)

-The Floor is Wooden (new flooring which was left in the rain so skipped) which i blagged off the builers for nothing, (knots have fallen out now but it doesnt matter)

Which then i Put a Blow torch to, so as to get that Aged look and Laquered, (got 5 ltrs of clear Varnish off a painter on the site i worked on)

The Shelving is an old sitting room cabinet doors took off, separated from bottom presses given a lick of Dark varnish to freshen it up, Its got the optrex' (spelling) to hold the Spirts clamped to the top of that,

5 in all Donated by my Local Public house,

The Cooler lives under this so i just built a bit of a counter with some 2x1's and Joined even more floorboards clamped and glued them, good solid mase for my "Half press" to live on

which holds all my pint glasses, wine glasses, shot glasses, tall glasses ect

-In the Center of the Room ive got a 6'x9' Slate Top Pool table which again i managed to blag for fook all, whoohoo ,

-Dotted around the place ive got some barstools, i had 3 but then we aquired 3 or 4 more, which were going to get skipped, not a thing wrong with them either, so got 7 or 8 in there now,

-A friend was re-vamping a pub and managed to get me old signs and mirrors Hineken Budwiser stuff like that, nice little touches that were put up on the walls all around the place,

Got a nice Illuminated Hineken sign out of a skip, ( Gotta Love Skips Lads ) which was massive (deep) so would look daft hangon on the wall, so wat to do???? Measure the wall, cut it wit a slab saw, belt in the sign wire it up and hey presto a deadly pub sign

-I got a Dart Boad of my then girlfriend for my birthday so that got a home in the corner of the bar away from the main action arena

then in the corner of the room lives a TV and Kareokee machine, jus for good measure

So that was that a lil alco barn was born so to name it, There were about 5-6 lads workin with me at this over 4 evenins after work from 6 pm on, some say they could hear hammers swingin at 2 in the morning we say thats local folklore But one of my dad's mates "Gud ole PC" decided to call it after my dad, who's nickname back in the day was the King for his elvis antics,

So he pipes up after an hour of head scratching, " The Fuking Kings Inn"

we buste our shite pipes laughin and all agreed, so paddy went home and hand carved a sign " The Kings Inn" To mount over the Bar, Icing on the little bun

So there ya have it Berni

Pity we were too busy fighting with a steering rack on the car to try see what the drink poured from it was like

@ Feens : nice attempt.

But I think I have the upper hand here when it comes to building Bars. I spent all of the late ninties building about 20 Irish Pubs abroad, like this one for example in Naples, Florida owned by an ex CIA Irish man!

I have plans at home for a 20'0" x 20'0" x 11'0" high self contained moveable Micro Brewery/Irish pub which I won an award for in San Francisco and a Trade Fair A wealthy guy from Canada bought it for his house!
