Default Scally Rally car wanted

I know i'm posting in the wrong section but i though i'd get a better response, i've signed up for the scally rally from Belfast-westport-tralee-kinsale in october 14-18th, thing is the rules state that the car must be purchased for £100 pounds & be road legal (nct/mot), i'd like to do it in an E30 or another old beemer at least so if anyone has a car let me know, the bigger engine the better engine, age not important but remember i have to get it hrough an NCT!! any help would be much appreciated, and i'll be collecting for charity also.....anyone elso want to go log on to www.scallyrally.co.uk
£160 to enter........

no dave you need to but teh car for less than £100 & then nct it.......so it wouldn't want to be too rough.....as you wouldn't want to be spending a fortune to get it through an NCT

Ah, I get it now. So, basically somebody needs to donate an E30 for a 100 quid and then the competitor does anything that needs doing and put it through the NCT to be eligible for the rally.

Is there a limit in what you can spend after you initally buy it for a 100 quid? I reckon I'd end up sticking in the M3 engine and a few others bits just because I had to fix a ball-joint or seatbelt buckle

As far as i know there is no limit to what you can spend on the car roadworthy but i suspose in the spirit of the rally most of the cars are old tanks!! so they don't want gleaming showcars

Getting my chariot this evening a 92 518 se with 18 mths nct for the scally rally it seems in good nick, the guy is using it as a daily driver, pics to follow........also might need some advice on squeezing some more power out of the 1.8, or maybe just get a v8 & shoehorn it in

The 1.8s aren't even awful in terms of performance in the E34, they also look pathetic in the engine bay!

You'll proably be able to pull the engine put withou even jacking the car up!

yeah, picked it up, its straight enough, 247,000 miles, 31 stamps in the service book!! it was looked after well, dead right dave open the bonnet & all you see is a pathetic lawn mower engine, it has 18 mths left on the nct, 4 15" cross spoke bbs style alloys (prob fit my 325...) needs a middle exhaust box but its pulling strong & all the brakes are fine so it should be able to do the rally no prob with a service.......wouldn't mind a six pot under the bonnet

Yeah, you'd pick up a 2.5 24v lump for it for a few hundred quid and swap it over in a day or two over a weekend.

The wheels are 5 stud so won't fit your 325 unless you get some E30 M3 suspension for it
