Colours

Tech 1 from 1986

* Diamond Black
* Dolphin Grey
* Lachs Silver

This model was produced for a short time of 6-10 months and most were either grey, silver or black. They differ from the tech 2 by looks and cabin accessories but in the main they are not so different. This tech 1 is in lachs silver and showing the standard kit front apron and side skirts and rear apron and colour-coded boot spoiler. The trim is grey houndstooth but did also come in leather. This is becoming harder to find now so if you have any hang on to it, most drivers seats have the usual bolster wear. Inside you have tech 1 steering wheel and sports seats, black headlining and all usual refinements are not standard as with any bmw you could ask for electric bits to be added - such as windows and sun-roof the one above does not have electric windows but does have electric sun-roof.

As for the model in general this is now a very rare model, even more so than the tuning houses of hartge etc as they produced cars through out the models life this was made then stopped to be superseded by the later tech 2. This model does not appear in the parkers classic car buyers guide, this model was not present, the tech 2 was but from 1988 on so this model will only rise in price.

That was really a flaw rather than a factory option,

You can see them all in abit more detail here
http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/i..._At_March_1990

Just for the 318iS... plus my own little OEM+ additions

Ones in bold are the stuff I have... only other thing I'd really be interested in that I don't have is the air-con.
My iSes original spec sheet is total poverty however so 99% of the stuff on it now are retro-fitted.

Originally, it was a basic iS complete with steel wheels and alll. Only thing it did have that was interesting is "speed sensitive steering" whatever that meant! Still was shite though in comparison to the new Clubsport rack!

Central locking with dead lock.
Front & rear inertia reel seat belts
Green tinted glass
Anti-dazzle safety mirror
Power assisted steering
Electrically controlled door mirrors
Tachometer
Rechargeable glove box torch
Electric front windows
Headlamp levelling with 3 position manual switch
Toolbox, first aid kit & warning triangle
Fuel tank capacity: 4 cylinder = 55 litres 6 cylinder = 62 litres

16-valve light alloy cylinder head with bi-concave combustion chambers, DOHC
Front vented disc brakes; rear solid disc brakes
De-chrome
M Technic steering wheel
Leather gear knob and gaiter
M Technic sports suspension inc rear anti-roll bar
Spoiler equipment front & rear
Colour-coded door mirrors
Steel wheels & 318iS style flush covers (5.5J x 14)
BMW sports seats

Optional Equipment for all models: (List is not exhaustive but the most common options)
Baur Cabriolet Conversion (£4,475)
Metallic Paint (£375)

speed sensitive steering

It gets heavier the faster you go as distinct from ordinary power steering.

Haha, rust does indeed seem to be a pretty popular option!

I know what it is, but I have never seen anything in an E30 to link speed signals with something that effects the steering.

My iS' PAS system was no different to any other E30 I've been looking at the steering on.

The important thing is to have it regardless and be seen to have it.
