Default Diamond Schwarz E30

Hello,

I bought a 91 320i (m20b25) last month with the plan to run it as my daily driver. I bought it without an NCT so first thing was putting it through that. It failed on it's sills so needed a small bit of metal work to pass.

Doing this meant removing the interior and carpets. So while that was out the carpet got a good deep clean with detergent and the power hose.

I also tidied up the seat rails as they had some corrosion on them and looked unsightly.

Rubbed down

Primed

and back in place, looks much nicer now when opening the door.

I bought a set of 14' BBS from Donedeal that needed a bit of a clean but came up ok

I also changed all the locks so I have one key now that does everything. A new paint job is on the list, but will probably be a few months away yet.

Here is how the car sits today:

Currently the car has a 4.1 open diff in it, and I find that I would prefer a longer diff to drop the revs a bit whilst cruising. I can pick up a 3.61 open one, but was wondering should I wait for an LSD to come up. I have been looking in the usual places online but they seem very scarce. Can anyone help point me in the right direction, as I feel if I change to a longer open diff now, I will still want an LSD in the near future.

Any other advice on what to get/look out for on these is welcome!

Really love the car so far

In fairness that picture makes it look better than it is. There's a few small patches of rust that need attention and the car came with new doors, wings and a boot lid so it's on the list to get those installed and sprayed and if doing that may as well do the whole lot. It's in getting a once over with a local indy today and new timing belt amongst other things.

She's going great so far Tom

Looks great. Love Diamond Schwartz! Any big plans for it? I had a 3.64 LSD in my 325 and it made it lovely on the motorway and got fairly good MPG. Changed to a 3.91 though as I wanted to have a bit more of a fast road gearing...

Nothing major at the minute, want to keep it oem looking and just keep it in good shape. The s54 conversion will have to wait a few weeks

It got new belts, fluids, filters this week so just waiting on a water pump now as it had a small leak from there. Still trying to get an lsd but struggling so far. Was quoted e550 there from a fella on dd who refurbishes them to convert a 3.64 open one to lsd....and that's me providing the open one!

Would this be of any use to me?

http://www.adverts.ie/other/e36-lsd-2-79-ratio/10994421

I know the ratio is very long on it, it would change my 3k rpm to 2k rpm which might be too much.

Would this be a direct swap? Is there much work then in changing the CWP if I find it too long and want to change the ratio.

Thanks in advance

2.79 would make the 325i feel very slow slow off the line! Though you might get 200mph if ya manage to redline 5th gear All the e36 internals would fit an e30 medium case though

You could swap the e36 LSD unit into an e30 diff if you wanted... but you dont want anything below 3.64 really

Is your 3.64 LSD? Let me know if you want to free up some space if it is.

Cheers

These diff ratios baffle me. Will the 364 give you better fuel economy ?
