Exclamation Rust difference between 318's and 325's and other models?????

Hi evryone,,
dunno if this was brought up before but i have been looking for a good 325 without rust for a good while and they seem impossible to find??
i had a 318is before in red and she genuinely was 98% rust free!!!!
i couldnt get over how clean it was rust wise,, there was one small bit beside the petrol tank filler pipe inside the arch about the size of a 2 cent coin that was it.
Would it be something to do with when they where being made??
dipped different ??
sports produced in a different country??
not as strong a build weaker welds??
or just becase the majority of sports came from over the pond??
its really dissapointing as there is next to none out there still the same way they came out of the factory as in more years they will be a real collectors item worth massive money i reckon??
also its kinda dissapointing that they are getting into the wrong hands of alot of people (diffing the bollocks outta them) instead of minding them and restoring them.
Im no angel and like a bit of sideways action myself dont get me wrong but if i find one for myself itll be restored ta its original glory and keeping it
just wondering though what is the story on the differences in condition rust wise??
thanks

Surely to do with the 318iS being made by god himself from rare elements and unobtainium and upon entry to the earths atmosphere where each iS first breaks the sound-barrier, its body sell becomes hardened and impervious to such simple effects of living on earth such as oxidation.
They say the glove box was treated in an un-familar substance too which was likely to protect objects inside from the energy unleashed by the engine... this was thought to be a galvanised coating by many.

Seriously though, it just the fact the Sports have kit covering most of the places that rust badly while most iSes don't.

All E30s rust if not taken care of, I think the tourings were alittle hard wearing alright though as they were built in the same factory as E34s

Inside of the bootlid.... which is covered by a Tec 2 spoiler ontop letting water and dirt gather underneath it.

Rear pockets.... covered on the outside firstly by a rear plane that is badly undersealed between that and the pocket plus the rear M-tec 2 rear valance which traps even more dirt and moisture.
Same goes for the inner arches, a big bumper letting moisture get trapped un inside it and a door pods and skirts at the front of the side of it.

The iS could possibly be made alittle better but they can rust just as badly as any Sport. Possibly the fact they have not been as popular as Sports until recent years has something to do with it too as some people would have just got a Sport just because it was RWD and had a diff.

An iS needs to be modded to some extent to be a nice drivers car while a Sport can just go "diffing" straight out of the box which appealed to some people who drove them to death and then sold them on and didn't care if they were starting to rust.

i think i remember being told the sports and tourings were made in a different factory and didn't hold up aswell to the rust as the other models, sounds daft but must have been differences in how the bodies were treated or something

Are you being serious William?!?

Tourings are the most rust proof E30s..... but they still rust so its really a waste of time talking about it.
Probably the most rust proof E30 is a poverty sec 316i with no sunroof, spoilers or any extra bits of trim.

They weren't galavanised... as mentioned earlier, it was mistaken to be galvanised by mere mortals that did not notice the the strange coating as the cars were dipped into the core of a distant planet that would protect them as they regularly reach the speed of sound.
